Creating a text file from scratch

Top  Previous  Next

A text file that has not been created by TitleVision TV2003 or Sub Machine may be impossible to open. It may even make the system crash. To create a readable text file you must obey certain rules:

Without Time Code

Figures. The moment<PAR>

I meet a decent guy, he runs away.<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

I know exactly what you're talking about.<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

Come on!<PAR>

Get a life, baby!<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

And so on. You may even have three or more lines in a text as long as you separate them with double TABs. The bracketed codes (Tabulator and Paragraph sign - green print above) are usually invisible in an editor like Notepad, so you'll have to use a more advanced word processing program like MSWord. Make one empty line between each subtitle and the next and then replace <PAR><PAR> with <PAR><TAB><TAB><PAR>. Save the whole thing as plain text (with a *.txt extension)

Note: Please make sure the file has a <PAR><TAB><TAB><PAR> after the very last sentence, else it will not load properly.

Note: In MSWord a paragraph sign is shown as ¶ (it's actually an Enter) and a Tab is shown as an arrow pointing right).

To center a subtitle put one TAB in front of each line:

<TAB>This subtitle<PAR>

<TAB>is centered<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

This subtitle<PAR>

is left justified<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

With Time Code

<TAB><TAB><TAB><TAB>01:00:49:12<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><TAB><TAB>01:00:54:23<PAR>

Figures. The moment<PAR>

I meet a decent guy, he runs away.<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

<TAB><TAB><TAB><TAB>01:01:06:17<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><TAB><TAB>01:01:10:06<PAR>

I know exactly what you're talking about.<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

<TAB><TAB><TAB><TAB>01:01:11:19<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><TAB><TAB>01:01:14:09<PAR>

Come on!<PAR>

Get a life, baby!<PAR>

<TAB><TAB><PAR>

And so on. The time code must be preceded by four TABs and consist of four pairs of digits separated by colons. You must include both in cue and out cue like in the example. If you omit a whole block of TABs and time code (red print above) preceding a subtitle, that subtitle will still be read, but without time code.
